This Fall 2016, the University of Waterloo Bike Centre will continue to offer the bicycle rental program. Undergraduate students will have the opportunity to rent one of 22 bicycles at an affordable price for the entire term.

This term we will be using a lottery system to select those who will be able to rent a bike! To reserve a chance to rent a bike for the term, you will be required to pay a $10 refundable deposit. By purchasing your deposit ticket, you are automatically entered into the lottery. Should you be successful, you will be contacted by September 7th and your deposit will be credited to your rental amount. If you aren't selected, your deposit will be returned to you no later than Sept 30th. Deposits which is a flat fee of $10 (no additional tax or fees will be included!) can be purchased on the UW Bike Rental Ticketfi page.

Rental fees and damage deposits will be payable in cash or debit only when picking up your bike. Bike pickup will be Sept 8, Sept 9, and through the week of Sept 12-16.

Where is the Bike Centre

The Bike Centre is in the northwest corner of the Student Life Centre. You can get to us from the outside by our door in that corner of the building (on the Ring Road side of the SLC loading docks) or from inside the SLC by walking down the hallway past the CIBC and the Apple II hair stylists in the basement. The room number is SLC 0101.

How the Bike Centre Works

We charge $1/hr for use of the tools and $1 if you use any of the fluids. Both charges are flat rate.

We have new parts for sale, too!

  • Inner Tubes - $3 (26" presta valve) or $4.50 (26", 27", & 700c sizes)
  • Brake & Shift Cables: $3
  • Brake & Shift Housing: $2/ft
  • Patch Kits: $2.50 (regular) or $4 (gluessless)
  • Ankle Straps: $4

The fluids available are oil (suitable for your chain), lube (the thick gooey stuff to be used on bearings), and citrus-based solvent (for helping get rid of the old gooey stuff).

We have the tools for most routine maintenance.

What we don't have are tools that are specific for disc brakes, suspension fork or shock, frame straightening, pressing in headset cups, or for weird/cutting-edge/high-end parts.
